“Madeline is a soon to be 50-year-old Down Syndrome, multiple handicapped person with a mental age of a four-year-old. After a hospital stay in October, Madeline returned home with multiple medical problems. She was unable to work and even get out of bed without the assistance of three people.

She lost approximately 50 pounds and was having difficulty eating. When Brian Pimpinello came to be my sister’s therapist, she had already been seen by another agency and I was told that she was not progressing and therapy could not continue. Brian did a detailed assessment, listened to the entire history and asked me what my goals were for Maddie. I explained how she loved to go to her day program at the ARC in Woodbury and I would like that to happen. I told him that we needed to start from square one and gradually build up her muscle strength. He agreed and also felt that overtime her fear would lessen and she would walk.

Brian continually thought of different games and activities to get Madeline’s strength back. He would use her resistance to help strengthen her legs and also applied weights to her legs before doing a kicking the soccer ball. He made it into a game that Maddie could understand and succeed at. After nine weeks, Maddie was walking with assistance about 10 to 15 steps; she was getting out of bed with only one person and transferring from the wheelchair to the toilet with only my helping her. This was truly a miracle. Brian did not stop there but came with Maddie and myself to her ARC meeting that was held to decide when and if Madeline could return. Brian explained in detail Madeline’s progress and set up an in-service for the staff so they could see how to transfer Madeline to the toilet.

Madeline just completed her second full week back at the ARC. She is so happy to “go to work” and each day continues to get stronger. This is truly not only a success story but an answer to countless prayers. We will always be indebted to Brian for not giving up and knowing exactly how to get Madeline to function again. “My experience with the Physical Therapy Company began when I received a flyer in the mail. I called for information because therapy could be done in the home. One of the therapists came to make an assessment and evaluation and made the arrangements with my Physician and we started in June, 2020. This was very timely because of the pandemic and no gyms or PT access were open. The therapist started me slowly but soon I progressed so that for 3 days he monitored my exercises. He is a very caring and encouraging person so I was motivated to follow the plan.

He helped me work through the pain and always knew what I should do to relieve the pain due to spinal stenosis and osteoarthritis. I was sad to have the 12 weeks end. The therapist always answered my questions even after I was “finished.” It was easier to keep up when he was able to come as scheduled. Hopefully I will be able to resume therapy later.
